Magnasonic Portable DVD 7" Player- the open latch won't stayed closed?

I have a Magnasonic portable DVD-849-2 player that my child broke the open latch- it does not connect to close to play the video- it says "open" now even when it is closed and won;t play the video even though it appears to otherwise be working- any way to fix?
