how can i confirm the motor on my tumble dryer is faulty?

the drum on my LG condenser tumble dryer is turning very slowly when empty and not at all with any kind of load in the machine. I have taken the side panel off and the motor seems to get very hot very quickly. how can i confirm that the motor is at fault?
