how do i stop my cistern from taking ages to fill up?

everytime i flush the toliet, the cistern takes a long time to fill up and it seem to still be flushing slowly. eventually itfills up.what part do i have to adjust or replace to stoip it taking so long to fill up?

You need to strip down the ball cock valve. It has probably got some debris jammed inside it.
Some times its just easier to go to B&Q and get abrand new one for a few quid if you are not happy stripping down the valve

You don't say what type ie: Float ball and arm or the more modern one like upside down cup running up a ratched type rod as water level rises so does the float eventually shutting water off.

You also don't say if this is a new fault or it's been slow filling from new.
Have you had the water turned off for any reason? as it may be the water pressure needs to be lifted by opening the stop valve more, tank or main fed.
More details would be helpful.
