picasso 1.6 sx x reg, Speedometre fault?

Recently the speedometre on my 1.6 sx picasso has been jumping whilst driving. it seems fine up to about 20-30 mph and then goes crazy jumping to the 70's, 80's and even 100's. sometimes it even reads 0mph when i'm travelling at least 35-40mph. just wondered if it could be something as little as a minor wiring connection fault.
