Mend Dyson DC04 Dc04 Switch Housing

How can I reattach the power cord on a Dyson DC04 ?

The power cord has become detatched from the switch housing on my Dyson DC04. It should be a relatively simple job but how do I gain access to the switch terminals?
I've tried to lever the housing apart but without success

I tried and tried to use the knife but had to give in and drill the hole. My only comment for anyone else doing this is not to drill the hole too hight - on my old Dc04 I did it touching the protruding handel guide and caught the switch cover.

I removed the handle and drilled a small hole through the grey plastic housing which lined up with the green plastic catch on the on off switch. You may need to push the on off button down a bit to line up the drilled hole with the catch and insert a small screw driver through the hole and pull up on the switch. I did try the other options listed below but seemed to be doing to much damage.

ps thanks for the links because at least I could see what I was tackling.

thanks for the advice..the button is awkward to remove I found it easier to use a large flat bladed screwdiver to gently increase the distance between the button and the outer grey housing before inserting a flat blade knife to get 'over' the clip on the side button. Its no good just pushing a blade down without doing this as it only serves to push the button down

don,t try and prise around the whole unit, i did and made a mess. the only part you need to remove is the push button.
this is held in place by a small catch, push a thin knife down the side near the small hole on the button. once the button is off you will see a screw. remove this and the unit will lift out.

In an ideal world the bent screwdriver trick would probably work. But after wear and tear and a few abortive attempts at removal, the plastic is likely to be worn. A small thin bladed sharp kitchen knife inserted beside that tiny little hole should shield the edge of the catch completely and with some jiggling and heaving the switch WILL come out. (Just threaten it with replacement!)

It does take some time but it will come out in one piece
