How do i repair a door lock?

i am almost sure that you will find it is nothing to do with the lock or tumblers, it is the door lock itself that wears, the friction of the moveing parts inside the lock make the working parts loose thereby fouling the up and down movement of the operating rods that lock and unlock your door,
go to your local breakers yard as i have done with my last four customers, tell them you want a door lock, not key lock,
a little care, prise out the gromets securing trim fixings, remove holding screws, prise away horse shoe clip from behind window winder, remove any cables going to speakers in door,
gently prise away door pannel one plastic gromet at a time,put aside, never force any thing that will not come away easy,to remove plastic cover go arround edge with sharp knife as this has been sealed with mastic that when removed with care can be used again later, peel back half of the plastic covering to let you get at the door lock, remove two bolt that secure the lock cover stay, you will find that this to is sealed with mastic but is also plyable to use again later,remove the two operating rods from their gromets in the lock by gently pulling to one side, remove the three retaining screws holding the lock in place you can see these from the side of the door, remove lock complete with cable to pull handle, spray inside new lock with wd 40 before installing.
this may seem a bit of a pain to do but with a little care will only take you an hour at the most, and remember no one asks how long it took but how much did it cost, this is one hell of a way to save on a very common fault. take your time,

remove the door panel and see if all the locking rods are in place usully held on by a plastic clip,reinsert rod and attach clip,other than that the barrel or key is worn and will need replacing

THIS IS A COMMON FAULT WITH FORD DOOR LOCKS.THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE TUMBLERS AND THE KEY WEAR TO THE POINT THAT THEY WONT UNLOCK.PLEAS NOTE THAT YOU CAN LOCK ANY FORD WITH ANY KEY ITS ONLY THE UNLOCKING THATS AFFECTED WITH WEAR IN THE TUMBLERS AND KEY. YOU CAN BUY A REPAIR KIT FROM FORD BUT IF THE KEY IS WORN YOU WILL NEED TO GET A NEW KEY CUT AS WELL ALSO IF YOUR KEY IS CHIPPED IT WILL HAVE TO BE CODED TO YOUR CAR ...........A SIMPLE REMEDY IS TO STRIP THE BARREL AND REMOVE THE PIN HOLDING THE TUMBLERS AND RE ASSEMBLE BARREL .THIS WILL ALLOW THE LOCK TO BE OPENED WITH ANY FORD KEY BUT LETS FACE IT WHOS GOING TO TRY A KEY TO ENTER YOUR CAR ITS EITHER A BRICK OR A SCREW DRIVER..........GOOD LUCK ALEX D
