what would cause my fiat to knock when I depress the accelerator?

When I depress the accelerator my fiat punto 60 knocks. this gets faster as I go faster and stops when I take my foot off the accelerator. I have replaced the differential which has eased the problem somewhat but I wondered if you had any ideas as to what it may be. Frankly I am stumped
