Sounds like you have intermittent frame collapse. Probably dry joints to the frame output IC.
You really shouldn't run it while faulty as the intensity of the line brightness will burn a 'permanent' line in the tubes phosphor, which will appear as a dark shadow across the screen.
It sounds like a straightforward and inexpensive repair.
