I have this phone and am trying to set up an o2 sim but it doesnt recognise it I cant do anything, theres not even a messages bit on the phone

Do you mean the SIM is not recognised?
Bear in mind Tesco Mobile is effectively it's own network and not just 02 but called something different - they're as similar as T-mobile and Virgin mobile
