Mend Cistern Dual Button

The cistern lid will not lift off?

the toilet cistern lid will not come off, there is a dual flush plung button on the top which I assume is holding it in position. I have tried to turn the kernel but it does not move, how do you remove the cistern top?

i have a toilet like that, all you should need to do is unscrew the flush button on top of the cistern, then lift the lid the button will take awhile to come off but it will eventually.
