Remeha Avanta Plus 28c - Advice Please!?

Hi, my wife told me the boiler wasnt working today so I had a look and saw there was no pressure in it! And it was displaying error code E5. I have filled it up to 1.5bar and reset the boiler. It will only go so far through its start-up checks and then says E5. I looked in the peep-hole inside the boiler and can see it is lighting ok.

In the user manual it says the following:

Error Code - E5

Description - No ionisation or ionisation failure more than 5 times during one heat demand.

Possible cause - CO2 wrongly adjusted

Check / solution -
Check:
• CO2 adjustment on the gas block;
• ignition/ionisation pin;
• flue/air-supply connections;
• gas flow at full load;
• if there is no recirculation of flue gasses (either inside or outside the boiler).

I dont know if the low (no) pressure is the cause of the error or the result of it, or neither.

Can anyone tell me what/how I should check? Does this sound like a big problem or a simple fix?

Remeha Avanta Plus Heating, Home Heating Systems Advice Working Today

Just to update you, the fault was due to faulty controller board. A replacement circuit board cured the problem of E13 error. Engineer serviced the boiler to change burner seals and normal cleaning in and out side of burner at the same time.

Hi All,
Guys I am seeking advice to order the correct part to cure the error code E13 with Remeha Avanta Plus boiler. Boiler works fine for central heating side of the system but if we turn the H water then error appear on the display.
I reset the error then boiler work for few minutes to give really burning hot water and then kick the E13 again. The behavior of the boiler really either due to the plate heat exchanger issue or control board has voltage path that control the control the heat sensor need attention. After close inspection of the control board, I can see a swollen capacitor in power supply part of the board.
Any one engineer comes across with identical problem and what was the cure for the fault? Can you please help, will appreciate your input.

I have the same problem. We changed electrode, gasket, gas valve. Now technical team saying need to change transformer. After that will be something else i am sure. Most rubbish boiler ever Remeha Avanta plus 28c. So many parts related to one error code e5.

I have had the E6 error repeatedly on my 24c - BAXI changed the pcb but E6 has returned within one week any ideas?

If the people giving information out regarding gas boiler repairs, are gas safe registered engineers, they need locking up. Why do you think we pay for outrageously expensive gas courses, to keep our registration up to date. Its not to give out information to people who are not qualified to carry out gas work, who can cause a danger not only to themselves but other people too.

Maybe I had a bad one but unreliable over the 5 yrs life to date. Dozens of E4/E5 faults, most components changed by Gas Safe fitter - probe 3 times, transformer, PCB. I will never buy another product from Remeha.

I take it your gas engineer checked the inlet working pressure to the boiler which should be as near as possible 20mb. The vibration tends to occur through poor combustion which generally is down to working pressure or incorrect air gas ratio adjustment..DO NOT attempt to adjust the gas valve without the correct equipment, it could prove to be very dangerous. I would also get the pipe sizing checked ad the meter governor, also make sure the ecv is fully open

mike beaver - my boiler also making a noise when firing up sounds like the whole thing will vibrate off the wall, Gas engineer thought it was the gas valve - had this changed, was quiet for a few hours and now back to the vibration again - any engineers on here that know what is causing this? remeha direct have no idea.

Those of you even attempting to repair your own boiler are BREAKING THE LAW! Call a gas safe registered engineer, keep yourself and your family safe.
Remeha boilers are excellent boilers, easy to repair and service IF you are qualified. All Avantas used to come with a minimum of 5 yrs parts and 2 yrs labour warranty so you shouldn't need to attempt to repair it yourself anyway.

Those of you on here who are gas safe registered and are giving repair advice should be ashamed of yourselves, all it takes is for someone to incorrectly refit a part or to miss reinstalling a seal for a potential disaster to happen.

my water pressure is goes low every day and i have to keep topping it up for then radiators to get hot, i never used to have to do this every day, does anyone know whats wrong with it???

I have been having E5 failures , I can reset it and it goes for a few day then fails again. The odd time it showed E6 . I firstly re soldered the PCB some bright spark decided to use lead free solder how stupid being in an envoirment hot and cold joints will crack. This should only be done if your up to it. It did not fix the problem but its needed to be done. I then fitted a service kit (main burner seal and ignition electrode ) fixed problem so it was one of two items. All of this work must be done by a CORGI Reg Person

Hi guys been working on remeha boilers for about 6 months now and e5 fault code comes up a lot so try changing electrodes and transformer unit (the one that's at the side of the gas valve ) seems to sort it every time. E6 can be a pain but technical say pcb fault which to be fair does clear the fault code and not had one come back at me as yet. Hope this helps!!

Hi, I do repair boilers every day, but never met a boiler so difficult to fix like Remeha Avanta Plus range. Anyway - from my experience to solve E10 fult means that you need to keep open all rad valves after you switch off boiler from mains and made sure one rad is kept open allways. Of course it should be full of water 1 bar and make sure the air got out of boiler and pump. I`m still looking the solution for E5 unfortunately, so as soon as I find it out I will post it. But if you`re a landlord - very expensive and very difficult to fix the problems. The new PCB costs £232 - when E6 appears!!! Hope the above info will help someone.

Isolate the power to the boiler and remove outer casing. Unscrew the 2 philips screws holding the ionisation probe unit(careful not to nip the red insulation cover) and remove from heat exchanger. Clean the probes with wire wool(emery will suffice but be gentle). When nice, clean and shiney, put it all back together. Switch power to boiler to on, press "R" and that should do the trick. Getting an E.5 error could also be a good time to get your boiler serviced.

how old is the boiler you can tell with the first two digits of the serial No. ie:08.If its still in warranty then book a call direct with the company and it will be sorted same day/next day.
