How can I get the battery out of my Ford Escort?

I have disconnected my Ford Escort car battery but can't get it out of the car, how can I do this?

taking the cables off is not enough, check around the base of the battery for 2 bolt down clamps they will be opposite each other . An MOT requirement is the battery must be mounted securely.this can be via a metal frame(usually big batteries) or the brackets method
