Mend Whirlpool Fridge Freezer Defrost

Whirlpool Fridgde/freezer, freezer not working?

I have an american stye whirlpool fridge freezer but the freezer has stopped working. The temp gauge on front panel is flashing. The fan is working and if I turn it off for a few hours it will refreeze but then defrosts after a short while.
Any assistance would be great
