Mend Vauxhall Zafira Management Help Reg

vauxhall zafira engine management light still on. help?

Hi
I have a V reg 1999 vauxhall zafira elegance 1.8. Engine management light came on and stayed on and car very jumpy and not smooth at all.
Have changed the EGR valve and although it drives smoother it is still a bit jumpy particularly in low gears and also the engine management light is still on.
Am wondering if there is another problem (i think so) and if anyone has any ideasas to what it could be? Also does the engine management light go off automatically when the part is changed or does it have to be reset and if so how do i get it reset.

The ecu on the zafira is a common fault and often to expensive to fix, if jumpy, goes into limp mode, sometimes if its e u problems u carnt even get a code with the machines

Take a stick of dynamite. Stick it up the exhaust, light the fuse, run like hell and watch the sob go through the same pain as you have suffered. You'll feel better.

My vauxhall zafira 2.0 dti kept loosing power .
I look through all the possible answers on Google
And went with Cheeper option and change the crank
Shaft sensor.
It cost about £50 pound including labour.
Still no problem since April 2013 touch wood

Sometimes problems like this can be caused by something as simple as a split vacumn tube to the airflow meter. This is exactly what happened with my '98 Renault Scenic. A very obliging Renault specialist put the car on diagnostics, identified which sensor the problem lay with, and identified a common cause, the perished pipe, replaced it AND only charged me £30.

I have a Zafira 2.0DTI, 04 plate, my management light was coming on when I was on a trip and slowing the car to about 70mph, this got really frequent on long journeys.. I removed the erg valve, and thoroughly cleaned the valve with wd40. I took about an hour and did it slowly and thoroughly. I put it back on the engine and have just got back from holiday....Not a flicker so far and car running better than ever!!

Engine Management Light Fix

My light started coming on a month or so ago, and the car going into limp mode, it only happened after journeying around 15 or so miles. I could clear it temporary by turning the ignition off and back on again (even on the move). My vehicle, by the way, is a 54reg Zafira 2.0 DTi Auto with 41k on the clock.

After reading many ‘threads’ about the problem, took the one from the RAC site first as it costs nothing except for a few hours work under the bonnet and a couple of aerosols of carb cleaner.

The problem is the inlet manifold becomes furred up with carbon deposits, which affects the movement of both the ERG valve and the 4 butterfly valves in the manifold.

The Fix is to strip down the inlet manifold and using carb cleaner, clean away all the carbon build up. I stripped the manifold down to the point where I could see the 4 butterfly valves and then carefully pushed in behind them screwed up pieces of rag, including the other 4 open holes, to ensure no debris entered the cylinders during the cleaning process, the rag pieces of course being removed afterwards.

Tips & Tricks
You can remove the bottom section of the manifold that contains the butterfly valve if you prefer, I didn’t, but you must replace the nuts securing it with new ones if you do.
If you’ve the later electronic ERG valve DO NOT attempt to separate it from the manifold as to try and do so will most likely result in cracking the manifold, or both. The moving parts of the valve can be cleaned with it institute.
It is recommend to replace any gaskets; however all mine came off quite cleanly, so I opted to put the old ones back with just the smallest smear of sealant on them.
On the diesel model you have to disconnect the fuel lines from each of the injectors and pull them gently backwards out of the way to remove the manifold cover. – Make sure your battery is fully charged, as on the rebuild you need to turn your engine over for up to a couple of minutes to prime the system once more. It’s recommended you do this is 30 second bursts, so not to burn out the starter motor.

Conclusion
I’ve now done around a thousand miles since cleaning the inlet manifold on my vehicle and touch wood haven’t had even a flicker from the engine management light. – Trust this may be of help to some of you. Remember, this cost nothing to do, so would suggest it’s the first avenue to try, before lashing out on expensive parts.

Michelle,
This forum will help:- http://www.vauxhallownersnetwork.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=119
Best to get the codes read, usually cost's around £25 for a ECU diagnostic from an independent garage (none main dealer).
Yes if fault cured, then ECU will reset.
I'd change plugs first, cheapest option on eco engine.

ok thanks for replying will do that. someone has suggested it may be the lambda sensor. is that the same as the air mass thingy or is it completely different.
thanks again

Oh and forgot, the lamp will go out when the fault is cleared.

The engine managemnet system will tell you what wrong, either ask a garage to plug their diagnostic tester in (will cost about £30) or nip down to Halfords and buy a Gunsons engine reader (about £20) . Its almost certainly one of the sensors, common problems on this engine are cam, crank and air mass sensors, all of which are quite simple to replace.
