Hi m8 it could be the turbo charger as well cos if the seal brakes in there, it leakes oil into the engine and can cause it to stall this could explain turning the key as well because it uses more power when starting so the oil is ignited and then is combusted by the engine

I'M ONLY GUESSING!

Years back I had similar with a petrol engine and left fuel cap off to see what would happen [mechanics advise] hey! it worked. So could be vaccum being caused in the fule tank. In my case changed the fule cap apprently had wrong one on [no vent].
