thank you to all you nice people for your advice. I have had the hydraulic pipe refitted and the mechanic said it was leaking fron the clutch master cylinder the seals had gone. I got a part from davros in flintshire EXCELLENT BEDFORD SCRAPPY it cost 32.00 and was fitted by the mechanic yet another 95.00 it now appears to be running fine drove home like a dream please let it be fine now.

(Apart from putting it into neutral without the benefit of the clutch , which wouldn't do the gearbox much good).

I wonder is that the real problem? If you had a hydraulic (clutch) fluid leak then you couldn't de-clutch and getting gears would not be your biggest problem but rather how to disconnect the engine from the driveline and stop the truck!

the clutch needs oil and air try bleeding it out maby their is air in it check the resavoir for oil if it is empty thei maybe a hole in it

Tracey, you have a hydraulic clutch and this must be put right. When you press the pedal, you are pushing fluid from the master cylinder down a steel or flexible rubber pipe that connects to the slave cylinder on the side of the gearbox bell housing. The pipe work needs to be replaced, and for the life of me I can't understand why the garage didn't do it! Eventually you'll not get any gears at all and you'll be stranded.
