Mend Hotpoint Water Switch Washer

Where is the water level control switch on a Hotpoint WM54 washer?

my washer keeps over filling each time I use the washer for some reason the washer does not stop filling and over fills the drum and the machine does not work.

In addition to previous answer, the plastic hose can become disconnected from the red plastic pressure chamber as it is only held on by a spring clip and the machine will keep filling.

Here's how the washing machine controls the water levels.

• There is a pressure switch, which is a small device with several wires on it. This part is always at the top of the machine under the lid. It's round and near to the timer.

• At the bottom of this pressure switch is a plastic hose.

• This hose runs down to a pressure chamber which is fitted to the tub.

This is how it works -

• As water enters the washing machine, it also enters the pressure chamber
• As the level of the water rises, it forces air up the tubing and when sufficient air pressure is reached, the pressure switch will switch on.
• This then cuts the power to the water valves and passes it on to the timer which starts washing.

If the pressure chamber at the bottom of the tube gets blocked with gunge, the washing machine can overfill

This is only one of the cpossible causes but it's the most common.
