Mend Washing Machine Door Seal Retaining Spring

How do I fit the retaining spring around a new door seal?

The inside seal on my washing machine is retained by a coiled spring which clips together. I cant seem to get it to stay in place without it coming undone or jumping off. It looks to me like you need 2 or 3 pairs of hands to do it. What is the technique??

If it is connected via a white crocodile type clip, (A bit like a cable-tie connection) just use a pair of pliers to squeeze the two ends together.
