2nd hand tumble dryer smells like it is burning??

That is because it is what you need is to have the inside of the dryer clean out and yes it can chatch fire at worst.the filter does not chatch all the lint form the filter so it fills up in the back of your dryer and around the heating elemet it has also cause the heater element to blow so the heater no longer works please be carefull with 240v it will kill

Unfortunately, many people just run there dryers without ever having them cleaned & serviced. I suspect that you will find heaps of lint & dust inside especially around the element. Some probably became dislodged during the moving & may now be resting against the element which is giving you the burning smell. Most dryers are reasonably easy to get in to & clean out. Just make sure you draw a diagram or make a note before removing any wires or belt tensioner. So that you can put it back together properly.
