hi martin, this could be a simple Corrosion of the contacts in the switch , pop out the plastic cover between the handbrake and the gear stick , remove the 2 screws holding down the gearstick housing (this is so you can pull through the connector block for the switch)
gentaly pop the switch out using a flat head screwdriver , undo the connector block (right hand block i think) lift the plastic you removed the screws from to free the wire and block
now this part is a little more tricky.......!
now you have the switch out , pop the black cable grip x 1 and 2 metal retainers from each end to make life easier , now becareful here cuz you will need to pull the guts out to get to the conntacts , use flathead screwdriver to help pop it out ,
you should now see white plastic strip , holding the switch upside down pull the white plastic away being careful not to loose the triangle metal conntacts,
use a fine wire brush to clean the circuit board and triangle conntacts (dont brush to hard )
now reasemble , place white plastic upside down in your hand , place the triangle metal conntacts silver side towards your hand , gold side facing up , place the circuit board back on top being careful not to drop the conntacts !!!(make sure 1 conntact either side of the led bulb !!!!!!)
place back in black switc housing , replace cable grip and 2 metal retainers , and offer back up to the car , repace screws and plastic cover and hopefully working again !!!!!!!!!!!!
if this has not done the trick you need to look inside the door skin that all is connected , and that there is no break in the wire inside the flexy hose where the door hingers are as there can break over time due to wear and tear !!!
