Gas lines from gas tank to carb?

I have a Walpro carb in my 17" Sears Weed wacker. There were two diameters of fuel line. The thin one goes from the carb to the tank. I think I have cut mine too short and need to extend...(not sure but will try today)....as it cuts out after a minute or so...since I believe it is the return line I did not think it would matter unless a air bubble is preventing the return from working properly. As the Carb settings were OK before, I don't it is a lean fuel mix...

The thick one goes from the Tank to the priming bulb and from the priming bulb to the Carb.

For the filter installation, I pulled the thick tube so it was just poking out of the fuel filler neck....there was a small plastic coupler so I fitted that to the tube and cut another length of tube which I attached to the filter and coupler. The filter should be completely submerged so make sure you don't cut the tube too short or too long. Mine sits nicely in the bottom of the tank when in use.
