My new tap doesn't work?

Hi Guys,
I fit a new hot and cold tap to my kitchen sink. The cold works great now...but the hot tap runs a little, splutters and then stops altogether. This keeps happening. My hot water runs off the central heating. All I want is the tap to actually run water normally. Any ideas how to do this. I am a complete novice.....HELLUP!!
