renault espace 1995?

the expansion tank cap has a small hole in it , i think its ment to be there but, water is bobbleing from the hole, you can get the car really hot and take the cap off with no pressure firing the water up .
please could somone tell me if this water system requires no pressure or if the cap need replacing thanks...
