ford transit 80/2.5 derv ?

my transit will not hold warter in the tank it keeps spitting it out i just found out it has no thermostat could this be the prob

Sounds like someone removed the thermostat in order to limp from A to B to keep it cooler because the head gasket has blown and its the engine compression blowing the water out.
