How do I get to the switch connection in the Dyson 04?

I want to mend a faulty connection to the switch on the Dyson 04 but I can't find any way to get to it. The only accessible screws seem to be on the bottom of the machine and entirely unconnected with the switch location. Any hope of success without resorting to an engineer?
