Isolating hot water from taps?

it depends, on two things, if you hot water is mains fed, througha combi boiler or is tank fed from a water storage tank ?

I have a hot water storage tank in the airing cupboard.

A cold water feed enters it very low down near the base - the pipe has a drain cock fitted to it. A few feet further up on this 22mm pipe is a stop valve - if I close this tap the hot water runs for 30 seconds or so and then stops.

Perhaps yours is similar...
