w reg 1.8 petrol vectra coughing/lunging in 3rd?

just got this car yesterday drove fine all day then today it's wet and cold which is really the only difference was fine coming to work went out for lunch and in 3rd gear around 30 mph - 40 mph the car seemed to cough so i slowed down and speed up again and it coughed again, and keeps coughing i really hope this is something easy to fix so can anyone please help me out

just update you ferdie cos i'm nice like that, i changed the plugs but was still an issue and the issue was achully getting worse so i took to a garage who told me it was the differenchal in the gearbox YAY so a nice 400 - 500 to repaid lovely

hi this is ryan (the poster) just had an guy run an engine test on it he said it's fine and no faults come up would it be worth achully taking it to a vauxhall garage? or maybe just replacing the sparks first

I'd do the plugs first, as they are relatively cheap.
If it's no better then change the coils.
I wouldn't take it to Vauxhall to get the parts fitted, they're too expensive. It is a DIY job, should only need (IIRC) a set of allen keys and a long reach plug socket.
If you cant/dont want to do it yourself, take it to a small independent garage, they should only charge a half hours labour. They might be able to get a good deal on the parts too, but as stated, I prefer proper Vauxhall parts.

If you prefer, take it to Vauxhall, describe the problem to them and ask what they recommend. I can almost guarantee they will say "probably needs new plugs and coils but we'll have to run a diagnostic on it and give it a service first".
Then ask them how much it will cost.............

If you bought it from a trader take it back!!
Is there any service history?
These are classic 'plugs and leads' symptoms (or in your case plugs and coilpack as it doesn't have leads).
If it was my car I'd replace the spark plugs with proper G.M. ones from the vauxhall dealer.
If it still misfires you can either replace the coils or get the engine management codes read (£30 or less at an independent). This should tell you where the misfire is and if any other faults are logged.
Although I am usually dead against replacing parts without proper diagnosis in this case I'd be tempted to just stick on a coil pack.Again, I prefer to use original Vauxhall parts, but they are expensive.
If, when you remove the coils, the spark plug well has oil in it, it's just a leaky rocker gasket. It's cheap to replace but has to be done properly or will leak again.
