Mend Murray 10730 Mower Motor Model

How can I fix Murray Mower 10730?

The starter motor of my Murray Mower , model 10730 is spinning the wrong way and won't start. How do I fix it please?

Now discovered the battery is connected properly and starter motor is spinning correct way. Unfortunately, fly wheel on starter motor is not spinning off spindle to engage with motor flywheel. Could it need lubricating? If so what with? Maybe WD40?

Spinning the wrong way is most perculiar, and I assume it is caused because the battery terminals are connected the wrong way round?
