How can I fix my Bosch Wshing machine model wfl2860?

My wife's Bosch washing machine, model wfl2860 at the end of the wash cycle has water in the compartment where the user can fill with softener. I have tries cleaning out the drain plug at front bottom corner but the compartment still fills up with water.
Any answers to the problem would be gratefully received
