We just used an iron on low heat, high steam on a doubled up tea towel for a few seconds. worked perfectly!

I'm working on the assumption that the mahogany is finished with shellac, ie; 'french polish'.
In which case I think I would be tempted to try some 'thin' oil........ such as linseed, or Danish oil. Apply very lightly, and 'buff up' before it dries.
