does anyone know how to fix the sky cable?

Hi.
You need to strip it all right back. The gold bit in the middle must NOT touch the meshy wire as you describe it. It's like male & female. Positive a& negative. You wont blow anything up, just no picture. Once all stripped back & the plastic will need cutting back to so you expose more of the gold wire, you will then re-attach the fittings & job done. It's very hard to describe in words how to do it. Good luck.
