How can I fix my old Panasonic TV?

I have an oldish Panasonic TV and it seems to be frozen on standby. It was working fine with a digibox and I switched it off the same as usual and now I get a red light, but can't get it to switch on fully. I've disconnected the digibox and tried it without, no difference, changed the batteries in the hand held control unit. I don't have a handbook to troubleshoot the problem. I've unplugged from the mains and started up the TV from scratch, it wont work using the TV (direct control buttons), does this mean I need to get a new one or is there something I can do to remedy the problem?
