Mend Dyson DC08 Cyclone Suction

How to disassemble Dyson DC08 cyclone / dust collector?

I think there is a blockage in the cyclones of my DC08, as the bypass valve clicks in almost straight away and suction is low. It is the same with all filters removed so that is the only remaining airflow obstruction. I've removed the two screws and handle then the third screw. The top and bottom green bits are still firmly held at two points between the screw holes. Do I just pull very hard or is there a trick please?

Many thanks again to Graham and Mark for their instructions. I am waiting on all my dismantled parts to dry and hopefully it will be like new afterwards.

Thanks so much for the info. Managed to open up the vacuum and found that all cyclonic turbines were completely blocked. Hubby used his air compressor to clear them. It now sucks like new.

Graham and Mark you are the best!!!. Thank you for your advice. I had the same problem, but not anymore. Your postings should be kept available for all Dyson DC08 users for the next twenty years.

Err further info. You can not use a screwdriver to remove the T15 torx screws, The hole tapers and gets quite thin. You need a torx tommy bar/wrench which is at least 70mm long. Also, small bottle brushes are hard to come by. I simply took a Sainsbury's basic toothbrush and used wire cutters to cut the outside rows off (leaving a two row toothbrush). This works great in the white cyclone holes. The white plastic cyclone moulding just pulls off the lower cyclone housing for easier cleaning.

That's a torx T15 by the way. Quite important information when you cant see anything for dust.

OK I'm stuck, how do I remove the Root shaped (blue bit) from the 1.5 inch Purple bit??? I have removed the 3 screws deep inside the top end but it won't budge?????

I had a similar problem with my DC14. To clean it I had to remove 7 screws. After a thorough cleaning, the problem persisted. Once I removed the spounge filter and cleaned the white mesh beneath it, the problem was resolved and the vacuum works as good as new.

Remove the 10cm / 4" long large funnel shaped section by gently pulling it off, ( its just clip fitted inside the larger piece which has all the hundreds of little holes in it.) Now you can access three screws which are Torx /Star type headed, to remove the section with all the little holes. You will then be able to see two more screws dep inside which hold the cyclone unit onto the top cover. Remove these 2 screws, turn the cover over and remove the 2 screws which hole the handle onto the cover. Finally carefully prise the handle sideways, its clipped onto the cover, to remove it and discover the last screw, making a total of 5 holding the cover on. This will give you access to a complicated white plastic moulding, which I recommend that you don't try to dismantle, but clean carefully with a bottle brush. Good luck, the only difficult part is unclipping the handle, but its worth it to have a really clean cyclone. Make sure that everything is TOTALLY DRY before you try to use it, otherwise the dust will stick and immediately block everything up again.

I've just had exactly the same problem. To clean it out you have to remove the cone at the bottom of the cyclone unit. It sits in a ridge and simply pulls out. You can then remove the three screws from the lower cyclone part and then the two remaining screws from the upper part.

I've cleaned mine out and it now works as new.

The rest of the screws are behind the wheels, which you can simply pull off. 2 screws ech side.

Try phoning Dyson with your diagnosis of a blocked cyclone. They may send you one free. They did for me.
