Mend Singer Starlet Sewing Machine Repair Foot Controller

How can I fix my foot controller on a singer starlet sewing machine?

I have read that it is nescessary to remove the silver rectangular capacitor. Problem is that there seems to be two of these. One a small one on the top and a larger one underneath. can anyone please advise? thanks.

You may have two capacitors, take both out and try, usually it is the small square one, why you have two beats me, you can email me if you get a problem but you will have to get my email address off any answer from page 25 down because this site no longer allows email addresses to be shown.
