Whale song noises Nissan Micra ?

I have a Nissan Micra SI 1998. I've noticed in the last couple of weeks a type of whale song noise coming from the car when its been driven along.

This is the only way I can describe it. The noise stops when I apply the brakes it disappears altogether then several minutes later begins again. Stopping when I apply the brakes.

This noise only starts when the car's has done several miles and then after I've stopped at traffic lights or in slow moving traffic.

Can you please advise me as to what's causing this and how it can be fixed

The front pads need to be taken out and cleaned, and the sliding edges and back greased with coppaslip. If the front discs appear to be slightly blue there's a chance that the disc surface is glazed as well.

Re handbrake application above I mean dont pull it on -----with button depressed gently apply a light brake force, at low speed, 2 mph, for a second then release.

Could be many things
Stone stuck between a a brake disc and back plate
Wheel bearing
Drive shaft coupling
With care watch rear mirror and with no one behind very gently apply hand brake does the noise go away(Do this in a empty car park) If it does then problem may be from rear brakes.
Also while in car park when the noise appears turn steering wheel slightly to left or right if noise goes away could be a wheel bearing (fault bearing is normally on the opposite side to which you turn away. ie if you turn left and the noise goes away then it may be the right wheel bearing.
