knocking noise when i brake and go over bump- Pegeot 306?

loud knocking noise i think coming from front supsension-
even at walking pace slight application of brakes causes a knock - not sure what it is.
Recently had n/side shock (which had been leaking )replaced beleiving that to be the problem but still the same.
Any ideas??
