Mend Mercedes-Benz C180 Kompressor Fault Bought Start

is this a fault?

hi i have just bought a mercedes c180 kompressor 2003 model, on start up there is a knocking sound coming from the engine,but it dissapears after a few seconds ,can any one tell me if this is a fault or not,thanks?

Any service history with the car? When was the oil and filter last changed.
I would start with changing the oil and filter and make sure correct oil is used and a Mercedes-Benz oil filter

possible hydraulic tappet fault .one or more tappets are on there way out, wouldnt expect this on a merc unless it was high mileage.best get it looked at
