renault espace rtx 20i gearbox?

I have exactly the same problem, apparently it's a faulty sensor on the gearbox. you will have to put it on a diagnostic machine to identify which one. Remember if it works sometimes it's not mechanical but electrical, so don't get conned into having the gearbox rebuilt. Don't go to a Renault dealer, find a good gearbox specialist, they are far better. I've put up with the problem for a few months now, puts the fuel consumption up a bit on the motorway!

i am having the same problem with my auto espace. 01 model, 1998cc. it will drive off normally but within 1 mile the alarm goes off and the box with zigzag lines appear and the gearbox goes back to 3rd gear and wont go to 4th. this only happens when the car is cold. when i stop and turn the engine off and on again it is fine. i have it in with the specialists again (just paid 2500 euro for my box to be rebuilt) and hope to find something out tomorrow, at the moment they cant find a problem. but he will start it from cold tomorrow morning. this has happened to me for the last 4 mornings so it must happen again tomorrow. i will post with news when i get the results
