hja8630 diplomat dishwasher wont fill???

My dishwasher turns on lights up makes noises but doesn't seem to fill with water. If i leave it it just goes on for hours making the same noise. I have had an engineer out who said there was water underneath and it looked like the sump was broke. He also said that it would be cheaper to buy a new dishwasher than replace the sump. The dishwasher is only 18 months old. Does anyone know if this sounds correct? as i cant afford to buy a new dishwasher. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
