Mend Singer Sewing Machine Thread Jamming

Singer sewing machine?

The thread keeps knotting up behind the material and jamming the shuttle,I have checked the tension but have forgoten how to solve the problem,

Top tension should be about 4 or 5, you should be able to pull the bottom thread through with slight resistence, if it is too tight slacken the screw on the bobbin case anti clockwise about a quarter of a turn at a time and test sew, make sure you have the bobbin in the bobbin case turning anti clockwise.
