Anybody know an insurance company that will cover road registered Lawn mowers. I have just won the contract for mowing the grass verges in our local town and have bought a ransoms ride on mower that is road registered, but cant find an insurance company that will insure it. There must be some insurance company who do these as the councils have plenty of road registered mowers.

Dave, I have exactly the same problem. I've trawled the internet with no sucess. Did you find an insurance company that would insure a ride on mower for road use? If so please could you let me know.

NFU mutual are normally your best bet.
A word of caution - I have heard of customers being prosecuted for using RED diesel in machines that they use for going site to site. The law changed last year, and it may be necessary to transport vehicles in a trailer if using them on RED diesel.

Thanks to phil for the answer and just to make it clear to the other guy (unpleasent) we do have a compact tractor that is fitted with gang mowers and is insured but the company wont do the ransomes This is more than capable of doing this contract but We wanted to add the ransomes to enable us to undertake more work should it come our way without the exspense of buying another compact and gang mower set. I have googled and come up with companys but when you phone them they dont do them. I suppose the answer would be to ask the council but i thought some one on here might know. So my question still stands

How the hell can someone tender for and win a local authority contract, not have suitable machinery at the time and then not know how to find insurance for it?

A quick google search turned up half a dozen agricultural machinery insurers - some of which specialise in just the kind of insurance you need.
Alternatively, why don't you just ask the council?
