how to fix generator?

how do i remove the generator head unit from my generator to replace the engine

I have a Classic Generator 8500CG. 7HP
Runs fine but wont turn off by switch, have to pull the spark lead of. Any thoughts

Normally, the engine has a taper shaft, which is retained by a long bolt through the generator rotor and into the engine crankshaft.

Undo the bolt about 4 turns, and hit the bolt head. This should pop off the generator.
