how can i fix the windscreen washer?

When you run out of screenwash but keep using the washers, you put a lot of strain on the screenwash pump and it blows the fuse. Sometimes it doesn't blow the fuse but damages the little pump thats usually attached to the screenwash bottle. You can get a pump from a scrapyard for about £5. Try the fuse first though!

You need to check there is an electrical supply to the motor,usually attached to the washer bottle.Remove the electrical plug get someone to operate the switch and with an electrical tester check there is power to the motor,if no power check fuses,see handbook.
If you have power to the motor it might just be temporarily seized up with slime and gunge. If you tap the motor with a spanner they often start working again but you need to operate the switch at the same time, it may take a while and a lot of tapping but it usually works,they rarely ever burn out on a lot of cars. On many cars the motor is just held into the washer bottle with a rubber grommet so you can wriggle the motor out to give it a good tapping. Its easier to warm up the nylon pipes on the motor with steam/hotwater or heat gun for removal of the pipes.
