Mend Hotpoint Removing Water Removed

Hotpoint tumble drier - problem in removing excess water?

I have removed excess water from my Hotpoint condenser tumble drier as it was shorting the electrics - however the piece of "card" that protects the heating elements has broken off as it was too wet. Can I repair this with tape and if so is there a special tape? If not does anyone know where I can purchase a replacement?
