Battery issues with a 2 foot diameter wall clock?

I have a large wall clock with large hands. It came with the standard 1-double A battery mechanism. The clock works fine for about 3 days on a new battery and then goes dead. I think the battery mechanism is to small/weak for this size clock and hands. Can I get a battery mechanism that holds a larger more powerful battery that would fix this problem?
