I'm not sure about Telewest as I have never seen a remote for them but universal remotes unfortunately don't operate all brands of televisions but as you know it is difficult to establish if it will operate a t.v.
If you can't locate a code you could try the search method.
Most universal remotes have a search method for locating codes and is usually in the instructions.
Satellite remotes for example use the search method as follows.
1) Push T.V button.
2) Press SELECT and RED buttons at the same time until the the red led in the remote control blinks twice.
3) Press T.V button (this selects a code).
4) Press the STANDBYE button (this switches the t.v off if the correct code or if incorrect repeat 3 and 4 until the t.v turns off).
5) When the t.v turned off Press the SELECT button to store.
Think of the codes in a circle and you are checking each one in turn. If you pass one in error you will have to go all the way round again. It could take up to 20min of button pushing for satellite remotes to complete the circle of codes and expect others will be similar.
