how can i remove front discs on 280 mk6 transit?

Tried to change my disc on my 100 280 2.0litre front wheel drive transit with no luck at all.
Removed four hub bolts, brake disc and caliper etc. plus centre hub nut. tried to beat the sh*t out of hub to remove was not having it. Tried large hydraulic puller on hub which just pushed half shaft through splines in hub but hub was left still attached. what am i doing wrong. what a stupid idea to put the disc behind the hub. is it just me.
