Hotpoint Aquarius TDL30 dryer?

As you have to rotate the drum, I would guess that the motor brushes are probably worn, causing a dead spot on the motor. By rotating the drum you are also rotating the motor which is probably causing the motor to move off the dead spot thus allowing the tumble dryer to operate. The brushes should therefore be checked and replaced if worn. If the brushes are OK then it is probably the motor itself. Replacing the motor is fairly straight foward. You will obviously need to obtain the correct motor for your TLD30 but you should be able to find one on-line. Hope this helps.
