Having read the helpful note from L6krb I took an internal look at our unit. Gave the potentiometer a tweak each way and tried again having positioned the slot in the same place. This made no difference at all but when I then tweaked it and left the slot quarter of a turn (90 deg) clockwise away from it's original position it appears to work perfectly. I suspect the only mechanical connection on the pcb is causing the same problem on most of these units. A word of warning however don't be tempted to plug it in without putting the unit back together first. This leaves exposed live wires with it's associated dangers ! !

I purchased this model 54535 doorbell and it has never worked. Using new batteries from the start, it worked at first try, so I placed it in the position it was needed and when tested it failed to work. I took the batteries out and repositioned them, and it worked. Placed it again where we wanted it to be [upstairs where we work] but callers thought no one was in and after knocking [unheard as too far away, thus the reason for purchase] left.

We have missed so many callers because of this, many couriers have left cards thinking no one was in. Every time I test it, replace the batteries, wiggle them, I get a chime, then nothing happens the next time. I have once again tried to get it to work more than the first time, while in my hand it works, occasionally it works once after testing in situ, then fails again.

I have another example of this product not working, did everything helpful websites and Uni Com say but nothing has got it working. At least I have an almost new CR2032 battery for my kitchen scales which are not from Uni Com! Best avoided.

I have replaced the push button battery element (CR2032) almost daily. Can't afford it anymore so dumping this pile of junk. Leave Uni Com well alone!!

I have a Uni-Com model number 52593. It randomly sounds a random chime. No amount of resetting the unit to change channels has helped.

This one is going into the bin!

I found after a bit of indepth investigation that the two solder joints on the pot were a tad dry , resoldering them seems to have done the trick

The model 54535 is actually rather dangerous. I bought it from Wilkinsons four months ago, then it stopped working. After changing the batteries it still wouldn't chime but it made one of the batteries extremely hot and it remained very hot for half an hour.

Same problem with the same brand - it seems to be generic to uni-com. Basically they are junk, it seems, and I seem to be developing an unwarranted reputation for ignoring friends calling as a result.

I've had two of these battery wireless unicom doorbells. They would work for about 2 hours, or 2 rings on the doorbell, then would stop working. I'm a therapist working from home, so you can imagine it isn't ideal to think a client is late, because the doorbell worked at 9.00 and 10.00 so I didn't think it would have stopped working at 11.00 - meanwhile my client is outside trying to phone me, but I've switched the phones off so they don't ring while I'm seeing someone...... now I have to literally sit and watch the front door in between sessions as I can't count on the doorbell. Brand new batteries - same story - the shop told me it must be the unit so I got another one - exactly the same. It worked for two days, then back to the same pattern. So I took it back and got the uni com model that plugs into a socket. Of course the shop said that no-one had ever had the problem I had... I took the electric one home - same story. This one works for about two days, then I have to switch the socket on and off and it works again. Fine, but I shouldn't have to do that!

If you remove and replace a battery from the chime unit, it will search for the bell push frequency again.

I don't know why it changed tones all by itself though:-(.

I bought mine from Wilkinson's for £10. It lasted 2 weeks and started to cycle through each chime every time it was pressed. So I replaced the battery and now it won't send a signal. I think it's just chinese rubbish.
