Fiesta 2003 faulty speedo problem?

I have a Fiesta 2003 1.4 petrol and the speedo works intermittently. Any ideas what i can try?

I assume it's a speed sensor and not done via a speedo cable? Is it easy to identify and get to?

replace speedo drive unit, it screws on to the back of the gear box
